Unit Studies

Unit studies are a great way top include all of your children while teaching around a certain topic. I incoporate a lot of unit studies in my lesson. Because of the range of ages in children, I am able to provide a themed lesson that all of my children can participate in on their own indivual level. When creating your lessons you are taking that theme and incorporating every subject from math and science to geography and art. We are currently working on an autumn themed unit study which I will be sharing in the coming weeks.


This video is a homeschooling mom giving a brief example of a unit study and lapbooking project on butterflies she has prepared for her children. I wanted to share this video as a visual example of what a unit study may consist of.

Creating The Space For the Little Ones

Through the past few years of our homeschool journey, we have learned alot about our children and ourselves. I've learned that when you provide it, they will come. My children are quite independent and they do not like to ask me for small things all the time so I have created their own leveled space. We have drawers at their level containing puzzles, blocks, paper, writing utensils etc. They have free unlimited access to all these things. They also know that they are responsible for the clean up and maintenance of it all and so far we have been smooth sailing I find my children wanting to do more and read more because they have the ability to grab what they want at any given time. Homeschooling and Finance

When it comes to homeschooling,there are no grants are funding available to finance your individual independent homeschool. You are a separate entity from the state and thus responsible for your own monetary needs. There are nonprofit groups that provide assistance to homeschoolers that have experienced hardship i.e. natural disaster etc.  and there are also non profit ministries that donate used curriculum for those who are experiencing hardship.  When it comes to homeschooling, you are going to spend time and money. If you are looking for a low cost way to homeschool then you are going to spend a good amount of time looking for free resources that tie into your children's course of study. The library is an invaluable free resource. You can also tap into your community and see what they have that's fee or low cost. The internet is a treasure trove full of free resources.
